Near the end of this film, Beane's daughter sings a lyric: 'you're a loser, Dad'. By then, how could Beane be anything else? He was always going to be a loser, and ironically, she was always the reason. You'll have to see the film to know exactly why, but the happy ending is that Billy Beane wins where it matters most. His unhappy fate requires him to take a wild game, place himself as its anchor, and turn the entire game around. And he does it because he's 'a loser, Dad'. He's playing for keeps. He has no intention of losing that last game.
